Wet wraps help create a skin barrier and prevent scratching. They also help increase the penetration of the topical medications. Wet wraps are a powerful treatment and should be used only for several nights at a time.
Supplies:
Topical steroid ointment and/or moisturizer
Warm water in a sink or a basin
2 layers of material: One for the wet layer on the bottom and one for the dry layer on top
Supplies:
Topical steroid ointment and/or moisturizer
Warm water in a sink or a basin
2 layers of material: One for the wet layer on the bottom and one for the dry layer on top
- Apply the steroid ointment or moisturizer to the inflamed skin
- Apply a thick layer of moisturizer to the rest of the skin
- Take the wet layer (e.g., gauze or pijamas) and dip it in warm water
- Wring out water until the wet layer is only slightly damp
- Wrap the affected area with the wet layer material
- Cover the wet layer with the dry layer of material
- Keep the room nice and warm
- If things feel too tight or uncomfortable at any point, remove the wraps
